About
To us, Oliva Newton-John is pretty much synonymous with the early '80s. Yes, we know she did a whole bunch of stuff before then. But 1978 gave us Grease, 1981 brought "Physical," and in 1980, a dreadfully bad movie called Xanadu was released. It co-starred Newton-John and Gene Kelly, and the nicest thing we can say about it is that the schlock factor is sky-high. However, the Broadway musical version, produced in 2007, was a surprise hit, a loving spoof of the original plot. Level Ground Arts gives the stage show its regional premiere, elevating the tackiness to new heights. The basic plot: Sonny is a frustrated artist who’s lacking inspiration. Kira is a beautiful muse who comes to Earth to help frustrated artists find inspiration. And, of course, when the two meet up, they inevitably open a roller disco. Sounds simple, right? There’s only one problem—when Kira starts to fall for the mortal Sonny, her otherworldly sisters aren’t too happy.
