Once upon a time, New York City performer Mike Daisey claimed that the story of his one-man stage show—about the human cost behind our most beloved gadgets—was entire true. But somebody who smelled something fishy fact-checked him (good thing we have those, right?) after his now infamous This American Life interview. He'd made a lot of it up, including the bits about inhumane working conditions and workers poisoned by exposure to the chemical Hexane. Ira Glass devoted an entire show to an unprecedented retraction and confrontation. (We recommend clicking that link, and reading the whole thing.) “My mistake, the mistake I truly regret, is that I had it on your show as journalism. And it’s not journalism. It’s theater,” Daisey said, in his own defense. Indeed. Amphibian Stage presents version 2.0, which apparently cuts the stuff pesky truth-seekers took issue with, and addresses the controvery directly.
