About
Ah, January. As the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin writes, it’s “a little corner of peaceful bliss, the night dressed in twilight.” This epigraph accompanies the first movement of Tchaikosky’s romantic Les Saisons, a piece you won’t actually hear during the DSO’s season opener. Instead, guest violinist Robert McDuffie tackles Phillip Glass’ tribute to Vivaldi’s equally delightful The Four Seasons (titled, naturally, An American Four Seasons). Also on deck is Mikhail Glinka’s overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2.
