Fried beer and Frito pie? Check. Fast rides and live entertainment? Uh huh. Pig races? Sweet peaches, yes. Honestly, if you can't find at least one thing you'd enjoy at the State Fair of Texas, we're guessing your favorite pastimes include counting sand and staring at walls. For three glorious weeks, the Fair gives us an excuse to cut out early, eat any and all edible substances in deep-fried form, and get in touch with our inner Texan. This year's schedule includes a dizzying array of livestock showcases, car shows, cooking demonstrations, garden expos, concerts—including KC and the Sunshine Band, Randy Travis, and Pat Benatar—and a whole mess of other stuff.
