California artist Nathan Mabry sort of smashes styles together for bronze (and sometimes steel) sculptures that, a first glance or from far away, look pretty traditional. Not so, friends. One piece that Mabry calls Process Art (B-E-A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E) resembles the creatures from Where The Wild Things Are, if Where The Wild Things Are was actually scary—especially since each individual sculpture is seven feet tall. His process is equally intriguing: he buys sculptures of people, puts masks on them, and then bronzes the whole thing. Very interventionist. We can't wait to see this work and others baking in the Nasher's garden this summer.
