After the death of his parents, Enoch (Henry Hopper) is left with no reason to live. After her diagnosis of terminal cancer, Annabel (Mia Wasikowska) wants nothing more than to live forever. But despite their polar-opposite responses to life-altering events, the pair find common ground in the fact that they, by and large, are alone in their experiences. Enoch and Annabel spend more and more time together, trying to live out the final days of Annabel's life by their own rules.
