So there's a guy named DZINE, and he's from Chicago. He's traveled thousands of miles to school us in "kustom kulture," something that pains us to spell but sounds ridiculously awesome: customized, tricked out cars, and the people who love them. From its "greased lightning" roots in the 50s to today's intricate pin striping and batik carving, DZINE has made the neologism part of his artistic expression. This highbrow low rider art party puts three gorgeous vehicles, or sculptures, if you will, on display, with special guest DJ Derrick Carter setting the sound. Various lowrider clubs of Dallas are expected to show up, as well, so you get a local taste of what it's all about. Phenomenon, a yearly fundraiser for the Dallas Contemporary, supports exhibits and educational programs.
