Loosely based on Sir Walter Scott's historical novel The Bridge of Lammermoor, Donizetti's popular Italian opera concerns the mentally and emotionally fragile Lucia (Romanian soprano Elena Mosuc), who is tricked into trading love for familial duty. Disastrous consequences ensue when a lady's prevented from following her heart.
