We can't pinpoint the moment we discovered Geographer's song "Kites," but we do know it was quite a few years ago, and we took it off a seven-inch single. It's stuck with us, through at least one iPod and a couple iterations of the iPhone. The band, which consists of guitarist and frontman Michael Deni, cellist Nathan Blaz, and drummer Brian Ostreicher, has kicked it in the Bay Area, producing a full-length album of the layered synth pop with darker undertones that we love.
