Phillie’s offbeat hip-hop group, G. Love and Special Sauce, stumbled right into the middle of MTV’s alternative fixation, boosting the summery single “Cold Beverage” to mega-hit status in 1994. It’s a little hard to tell where G. Love, born Garrett Dutton and apparently nursing some sort of life-long lemonade obsession, begins and Special Sauce ends, since his solo albums have inevitably mixed into the group’s discography, but we’re thrilled to have the whole gang for their trademark bluesy beats.
