We know that hungry children don't learn as well as well-fed peers. But what if a hungry child doesn't even make it to school at all? The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a non-governmental, public-private partnership organization that operates 19 kitchens in nine Indian states, feeds around 1.3 million poverty-stricken children a day. The kitchens are designed to be technologically efficient and safe, so that malnourishment isn't a barrier to education. It's a commendable goal with independently proven results, and a cause you can help support right here at home. The Dallas chapter's fundraising dinner promises an informative and entertaining talk from Dr. Mohanbir Sawhney, a professor of technology and strategic marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and a traditional Indian meal.
