Focus: Yinka Shonibare MBE
LocationModern Art Museum of Fort Worth
A few years ago, British/Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare, a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, created a large-scale replica of Horatio Nelson's HMS Victory, replaced the 37 glittering white sails with African batik print, and set the whole thing up in Trafalger Square. The batik is Shonibare's calling card, a blunt implication of British imperialism that appears throughout his other, varied works. Expect paintings, photos, dioramas, and more in this special exhibitition.
