Focus: Gary Simmons
LocationModern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Rather than despairing the streakiness of chalkboards (you know, how nothing really gets erased), Gary Simmons has turned semi-erased works of art into a signature style. He started with the usual chalk-on-blackboard technique, but has expanded his repertoire to include paper, paint, and murals. The result is something not quite of this world, but still tied to it, since Simmons’ work functions as commentary on the mutable, erasable nature of information.
