About
Our summer trip to Nice was canceled. We are hoping the trip to the lovely shores of Padre Island is still on. Thankfully, however, we can lose ourselves in this exhibition of 66 works on costal landscapes. "Coastlines: Images of Land and Sea" explores various modern artists’ representations of the shore, from Impressionist paintings to photographs to other works on paper. The exhibition is grouped in themes that explore a particular idea or question. Some of the works featured include Berthe Morisot’s The Port of Nice, Childe Hassam’s Duck Island, and Yasuio Kuniyoshi’s Bather Eith Cigarette. In addition to the gorgeous works, the exhibition is worth checking out for the sound installation that accompanies it. This is the first time the DMA has ever done something like this, and they collaborated with the University of Texas at Dallas' Arts and Technology program to produce it. Listen for different sounds in each of the five rooms, and don't miss standing on the carpet circles, where "sound lazers" beam down directly on you.
