Benjamin Britten’s massive setting of a requiem mass evolved from the composer’s own pacifist sensibilities during the widespread destruction of World War II. To give you an idea of the size of this majestic performance, originally commissioned for the opening of England’s Coventry Cathedral, a building that replaced an ancient structure destroyed by the German Air Force, the concert involves the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the DSO’s chorus, the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas, two conductors, and several soloists.
