Amy Tan has written other books besides The Joy Luck Club, of course, but that one, about the lives of four Chinese immigrants and their American-born daughters, is perhaps her most beloved. Still, her latest sounds fascinating—a tale of the courtesans who brought Western influences to Shanghai at the turn of the 19th century and beyond. It was inspired by a photo she saw at the Asian Art Museum in San Franciso, so it makes sense that her appearance would be sponsored by both the Crow Collection of Asian Art and the Dallas Museum of Art. She'll talk about the book as well as the link between fiction and museums.
