The solitude of nature is only eight minutes south of the jungle of concrete, high-rise buildings, and traffic in downtown Dallas. There are about 6,000 acres in the Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. That’s where you will find the Trinity River Audubon Center. You don’t have to be a bird enthusiast to enjoy 4 miles of trails that run through prairie, wetland, and forest habitat. But if you are, you’ll be a busy birder. The center has a full calendar of events and seminars designed to nurture your love of the outdoors. We could all use a night hike to search for owls or a class on sorting sparrow species.  Photography by Sean Fitzgerald
