Each time you dip a spoon into a “bowl of red” at Tolbert’s you are taking a big bite of Dallas history. The chili con carne was made famous by Frank X. Tolbert Sr., a Texas journalist, historian, and great lover of chili. When Frank and his son Frank X2 opened Tolbert’s Restaurant in 1976, they put Dallas on the chili map. Lines of businessmen and secretaries ran out the door. His daughter Kathleen keeps the Tolbert’s famous chili alive in a historic building on Main Street in Grapevine.
