The city's essential experiences. You're not a true local until you've done them all.
Eat a sandwich at Jimmy's Food Store
A good sandwich might be hard to find in Dallas, but an exceptional one is a cinch if you end up at Jimmy’s Food Store in East Dallas. This Italian grocery is stocked with all kinds of specialties from Italy. But past the shelves lined with Italian wine, olive oils, and coffee you’ll find the deli counter. Behind the cases filled with homemade sausages, specialty cheeses, and condiments, the jovial staff will assemble the sandwich of your dreams. Like an Italian sub stuffed with mortadella, capicola, sopressata, pepperoni, and provolone. Or the crowd favorite Cuban sandwich: 6 inches of roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and peppery mojo sauce. It might not be Italian, but it’s worth driving across town in a rainstorm to eat.  Photography by Kevin Marple
