Drink at the White Elephant Saloon in Fort Worth
Though a cocktail in the Stockyards may not sound very enticing to out-of-towners, locals know that quenching your thirst at this historic saloon is a North Texas rite of passage. Over the bar’s 121-year history, the old joint has drawn the likes of Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson and has seen its fair share of quick draws, high stakes, and loose women—not to mention a locally notorious, fatal shootout between Luke Short and Timothy I. Courtright. Today, the bar continues to pack in the tourists thanks to a solid guidebook reputation, nightly live music, and the handy proximity of Tim Love’s Love Shack.  Photography by Wade Griffith
