What are your favorite restaurants in Dallas?
Sali's, a small Italian place in Casa Linda, never disappoints. A special trip from wherever I may be at a given time to Oak Cliff for a little Mex at Tachito's is never out of the question. If the call is satisfying my newly discovered thing for sushi, Sushi Axiom on Henderson has proven to be outstanding. And the expansion of Fuzzy's into Dallas was one of the most wonderful events of 2010 for me.
What are your favorite shops in Dallas?
Shopping is not something I generally enjoy, so for me to commit mind, body and soul, something's got to be driving the mission big – I mean BIG – and there needs to be a few add-ons, i.e., a general good vibe to the place, solid people-watching, etc. NorthPark has the former and sometimes the latter, and the West Village holds up fairly well. And if I have a little time on my hands, I can while that away easily in any bookstore.
Sometimes my quest for tuneage takes me to the bigger venues, such as the American Airlines Center and the Gexa Energy Pavilion. What I really dig, though, is seeing the mid-level act. The Verizon Theatre is a more traditional venue and I've never seen a show in there that didn't sound excellent. I'm a stander who likes to get close to the action and the House of Blues, the Palladium and the Granada are all great venues for that. And anything you see at the Meyerson will be outstanding.
